Biography

Marek Wosinski officially retired from teaching in May 2016 after 25 years of teaching as senior lecturer at the Arizona State University. He is still employed by the Department of Psychology as an adjunct faculty responsible for development of the Global Network for Sustainable Development (GNSD). He is also a senior sustainability scientist at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability.

Wosinski received his degrees in psychology (with specialization in clinical and educational psychology) from the University of Warsaw (Poland). He had internships in Montreal, London, and in various mental health institutions in Poland. He came to U.S. in 1990 and began teaching at ASU. Before coming to USA, Wosinski was teaching at the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University and University of Katowice. For several years, he was in charge of the Center for Teachers Training, also had his own program on national TV “Psychology for Teachers”.

At Arizona State University, Wosinski has been teaching among other basic psychology courses Multicultural Perspective on Community Leadership, Multicultural Perspective on Community Development and Community Psychology. In the years 1993 to 2003, Wosinski served as a Director of Counseling Center in Mesa, AZ and in this capacity he was offering marriage counseling, as well as coordinating numerous community programs. In the year 2000, he was a finalist for the ASU Teacher of the Year Award and, in 2008, received the Outstanding Educator Award granted by the Society for Community Research and Action. In 2003, Wosinski earned Certificates for Life Coaching and Retirement Coaching and opened a private practice Dr. Marek – Coaching Through Life Transitions, LLC specializing on retirement coaching. He published four books and 60 articles in Polish and international journals.

Through his entire career, Wosinski has been very active on the international arena. He was teaching as a visiting professor in the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden. As a guest lecturer and motivational speaker he has been presenting throughout Europe, North/South America and Australia to diversified audiences: teens, teachers, medical doctors, managers, parents, senior citizens, religious communities, and others. He organized at Arizona State University two Summer Institutes on Community. He presented papers to numerous international conferences.

From 2007 till January 2014, Wosinski was building and facilitating the University- Community Partnership for Social Action Research Network (UCP-SARnet), an online network of currently 1,700 students, faculty members and community activists in 75 countries. The network is compiling and housing a library of resources for community leaders and promotes various community projects in China, India (among others the development of the Gandhi College of Social Work in Bihar) and in some African countries.

In 2012, UCP-SARnet initiated partnership between Arizona State University, Gandhi Research Foundation (India), and Jain Irrigation Systems, Ltd. (multinational company headquartered in India) that was formalized by signing a collaboration agreement in July 2012. The partnership has designed the Empowerment for Peace through Leadership in Agribusiness and Sustainability; Eradicating Poverty in Rural Communities (EmPeace LABS) project. So far, about 125 young community leaders from 15 African countries have participated in two workshops coordinated by Wosinski, the most recent workshop took place in Senegal in 2016.

In March 2014, Wosinski become coordinator of a new project Global Network for Sustainable Development (GNSD) created in frame of the Department of Psychology and Global Institute of Sustainability at Arizona State University. It is an Internet platform aiming to promote building global partnerships in the area of sustainability and environmental education among high school students. The network was officially launched in Kathmandu (Nepal) at the meeting of all Rotary Clubs from Nepal on September 14th, 2014.

The project was presented at the International Conference on Technology, Environment and Sustainable Development held in Gwalior (India) in February 2014, Wharton Social Impact Conference in San Francisco in March 2014 and at International Conference on Education, Culture and Society (Singapore) in June 2014. Recently GNSD in collaboration with community organizations from India and Nepal is working on a project Sustainability for Peace; Investing in Youth.

In September 2014, Wosinski, together with Mr. Rajesh Jangareddy, registered a new partnership organization Sustainable Transition Consulting, LLC, that became a member of Smart Cities Council. The organization affiliates about 40 international experts on different aspects of a smart city and currently is undertaking a project Smart Schools for Sustainable Smart City in collaboration with selected schools and Rotary Clubs in India, Nepal and U.S. SusTranCon signed a partnership agreement with the Arizona Technology Council and together they organize Smart City Summit in Phoenix, AZ on September 28th, 2017.

SusTranCon also signed partnership agreement with the partnership with the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University. Recently Springer published a book "Smart Learning in Smart Cities" describing learning environment in smart cities in China. The book was co-authored by Dejian Liu, Ronghuai Huang (dean of Smart Learning Institute), and Marek Wosinski.

In 2015, SusTranCon co-organized an international conference on Environmentally Friendly Agriculture and Horticulture in Planning of a Smart City. Conference was held in Bhopal (India) and Wosinski was a co-chair of the event. In December of 2016, SusTranCon co-organized another conference in Bhopal on the topic Environment and Agriculture in Planning of a Smart City. Wosinski is on Advisory Board for the conference on Agriculture in Emerging Economies organized by TERI UNiveresity in New Delhi on January 7-8, 2017.  In 2016, SusTranCon signed partnership agreement with Arizona Technology Council.  The first joined project of this partnership will be Smart City Summit organized in Phoenix on September 28th, 2017.

Wosinski is a member of the PHX Rotary 100 club in Phoenix, Arizona, chartered in 1914 and since then addressing global issues such as poverty, health, hunger, education and the environment. He serves there on the International Outreach Committee.

Wosinski is married, and his wife Wilhelmina Wosinska, professor in social psychology, retired in 2012 because of health issues. They have three daughters: Marta (44) who after several years of working as a Director of Research Team at the Federal Drug Administration got the position of a Chief Healthcare Economist at the Office of the Inspector General (Department of Health and Human Services), Zofia (39) who earned doctorate in organic chemistry from ASU, worked for few years at Ventana, and now has her own company Estaine, and Magdalena (34) who is a freelance photographer.
