Internship Description

We’re seeking a creative, organized and self-motivated Digital Marketing Intern to help amplify student and faculty stories through digital platforms. This internship provides hands-on experience in social media, email marketing and content creation, along with opportunities to contribute to larger campaigns and projects. While some administrative tasks are part of the role, the position is designed to build your portfolio and prepare you for careers in marketing, communications or the nonprofit sector. 

You’ll collaborate closely with the department’s marketing and communication manager across all stages of campaign development, including support for department-wide events.

  • Note: This is an unpaid internship intended to fulfill PSY or NEU 484 credit requirements.
  • Eligibility: Junior standing with a GPA of 2.7 or higher.
  • Total hours: Minimum 120 over the course of the semester.
    • To stay on track, students are expected to log at least 8 hours per week, with a minimum of 4 hours occurring during standard business hours to allow for meetings, collaboration, and timely feedback. The remaining hours may be completed on a flexible schedule, provided work is delivered reliably and with consistent quality.
  • Term: Follows ASU’s academic semester calendar.

  • Candidates must have the ability to use a personal phone and computer to complete assigned projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, draft and schedule social media content (Instagram, X, Facebook and LinkedIn)
  • Build, test and assist with sending email campaigns
  • Track and report analytics for social, web and email platforms
  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis
  • Assist with writing and editing social media posts, web content and other materials
  • Manage and update databases and customer relationship management (CRM) systems
  • Support campaign planning and execution
  • Design and update promotional materials (flyers, presentations, signage)
  • Maintain ASU and department brand standards
  • Participate in feedback cycles and content revisions
  • Generate creative content for social media at events and as needed — for example, creating a “day in the life” Instagram Reel or student highlights

Desired Qualifications:

  • Psychology or neuroscience majors preferred; students in marketing, English, journalism, communication, or related fields are also welcome
  • Up-to-date knowledge of marketing and social media trends
  • Experience creating organic social media content and campaigns
  • Familiarity with university brand guidelines and writing in AP Style
  • Proficiency with design software such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication, with strong grammar skills
  • Ability to multitask, manage projects and meet deadlines independently
  • Understanding of marketing goals and processes, including social media, email marketing and web content development
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Google applications (Sheets, Docs, Forms)
    Professionalism and effective collaboration when engaging with internal and external partners
