Join Psi Chi at ASU Tempe
Apply now
Psi Chi at ASU Tempe accepts applications on a rolling basis, allowing eligible students to join throughout the year. Follow the steps below to apply and become a member.
Application process
1. Check your eligibility
Ensure you meet the membership requirements for undergraduate, transfer or graduate students.
2. Complete the application form
Fill out the webform accurately and thoroughly if you believe you are eligible.
3. Processing time
After submitting, allow two weeks for processing. If eligible, you'll receive further instructions. If not, Psi Chi at ASU Tempe will provide details on how you can stay involved with Psi Chi as a non-member.
4. Pay membership dues
The one-time, lifetime dues of $75 cover your application fee and official membership. If contacted to pay dues after already submitting them to Psi Chi at ASU Tempe, do not pay — this could be a scam. Scholarships are available for students with financial need.
5. Receive confirmation
Within one week of paying dues, you'll receive confirmation of your completed application.
6. Attend the indiction ceremony
Join the induction ceremony to be honored as a new member of Psi Chi.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for Psi Chi membership, undergraduate students must meet the following requirements:
- Declared a psychology major, psychology minor, or neuroscience major
- Completed at least 45 total credit hours
- Completed at least 9 credit hours of psychology courses
- Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Earned a psychology GPA of 3.25 or higher (based on psychology-specific courses)
Transfer students must meet the following criteria for Psi Chi membership:
- Declared a psychology major, psychology minor, or neuroscience major
- Completed at least 36 total credit hours at any institution
- Completed at least 12 total credit hours at ASU
- Completed at least 9 credit hours of psychology courses at any institution
- Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Earned a psychology GPA of 3.25 or higher (based on psychology-specific courses)
Graduate students must meet the following requirements for Psi Chi membership:
- Enrolled in a psychology or closely related graduate program, or declared a psychology concentration or minor
- Completed at least 9 credit hours of graduate psychology courses in that program
- Earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 in all graduate courses, including psychology courses
- Met their graduate program's specific requirements (e.g., if certain courses require an A or B, students must meet those even if their cumulative GPA is above 3.25)
Online students and those based at ASU’s West campus are encouraged to join the Psi Chi chapter specific to their campus, which operates separately from the ASU Tempe chapter. For more information, please contact Assistant Teaching Professor Erin Kube at ekube@asu.edu.
Psi Beta, a national honor society for students at two-year colleges with an interest in psychology, is a sister organization to Psi Chi. However, each has its own membership requirements, and membership in Psi Beta does not guarantee membership in Psi Chi. Please refer to the eligibility criteria above to determine your qualifications for Psi Chi membership.
