Most full-time PhD students in the Department of Psychology receive funding through graduate teaching or research assistantships that include tuition support and an academic-year stipend. Graduate assistantships
Graduate assistantships include a nine-month academic-year stipend in addition to tuition support.
For the 2025–26 academic year, the stipend is $26,544. The Department of Psychology also strives to provide summer funding opportunities beyond the academic year.
Presidential Graduate Assistantship
Eligible incoming doctoral students may be considered for a Presidential Graduate Assistantship (PGA), subject to university approval and funding availability.
The PGA combines standard graduate assistantship support with additional professional development opportunities designed to support students’ academic and professional growth.
Department of Psychology fellowships and awards
Doctoral psychology students may earn Department of Psychology fellowships, scholarships and teaching awards that recognize excellence in academics, research and teaching. Award opportunities and eligibility vary by academic year.
External fellowships
Students are encouraged to work with their faculty advisor to identify fellowship and research training opportunities that align with their research interests.
